Kumta Eye & Retina Clinic was established in the late nineties in Malad and was the first clinic in this part of Mumbai to deal exclusively with complex retinal problems. Over the last few years it has grown to become a tertiary level center for vitreoretinal surgery with patients coming from very far off places including other states and the middle east as well. All this through only word of mouth publicity. It receives referrals from several prominent ophthalmologists as well as other vitreoretinal surgeons to handle their patients with complicated vitreoretinal problems. It is extremely well equipped with the latest equipment and excellent optometrists as well nursing and operation theatre staff and front desk personnel. It caters to a huge number of patients with one of the largest volumes of vitreoretinal patients in Mumbai.

About Dr. Anand Kumta

Dr. Anand Kumta is a graduate of the prestigious Seth G.S. Medical college and the K.E.M Hospital Mumbai from where he passed his MBBS. He had a brilliant academic career winning several prizes like the “Ackworth Leprosy prize” and the “Wagbhat Pathology prize” Later he was selected into the Ophthalmology PG program at KEM hospital Mumbai on the basis of his performance at the all India PG entrance exam where he stood first among all candidates appearing from Mumbai region. During his residency postgraduation training he passed the DOMS, FCPS exams from the College of Physicians & surgeons of Mumbai and later the MS exam from Bombay university. He secured the Gold medal at the FCPS exam and got the H D Dastoor prize and also the Mazumdar prize . Later he finished his fellowship under Dr. P N Nagpal from Retina Foundation Ahmedabad . He passed the ICO exam ( Basic sciences ) with a credit score and the ICO clinical exam held by the International council of ophthalmology , Oxford with a 98 percentile score internationally. He passed the FRCS Edinburgh as well as the FRCS Glasgow exams and is one of the fewest surgeons in India to achieve a double FRCS degree. He has performed tens of thousands of surgeries, laser procedures and very complex surgeries including resurgeries of patients operated elsewhere. His areas of special interest are Micro-incisional vitrectomy for Macular diseases, Diabetic retinopathy , complicated cataract surgeries and handling of cataract surgery complications like dislocated nucleus and lens and postoperative infection. He has trained several ophthalmologists and taught his techniques to fellow Vitreoretinal surgeons. He has lectured extensively and given talks at several Mumbai, state level and national conferences.
